The Sants-Montjuïc district in Barcelona is promoting comprehensive action in Tres Xemeneies square, where some of the Wallspot’s legal walls are located. This remodeling of the square aims to offer a welcoming and safe space for the residents of the area while improving the coexistence between the different groups that frequent the area.
This makeover also involves graffiti. Over the years, artists have performed several interventions on the square's legal walls, making it one of the most emblematic places for graffiti in Barcelona. However, interventions have also been made on other walls of the square, where it is not allowed to paint legally.
In order to relocate the works on the legal walls, Wallspot walls have been marked with a sign that indicates the spaces in where artistic interventions are allowed. These are the three walls in the center of the square, and the wall that surrounds the right side and reaches Paral·lel street (also including this outermost wall).
In addition, in order to promote these legal walls, from Wallspot we have launched various thematic JAMS which will be held in Tres Xemeneies. These will be held later this year, and will be open to all Wallspot artists. In each JAM, 2 guest artists who are experts on the subject will participate ad will be in charge of selecting 10 winners from among all the participants who have applied for the open call.
This way, urban art will also be included in this revitalisation of the square, which also includes a remodeling of the urban furniture (benches, picnic tables ...) and the floor with the aim of improving the coexistence between the people who frequently inhabit this space.
